City Margins, City Memories Conference: Monday 7th – Tuesday 8th April, 2014
Professor Hugh Campbell is Dean of Architecture at University College Dublin. Professor Campbell’s current research activity has two main aspects — an ongoing series of papers on photography, space and the self and a major Royal Irish Academy project, the Art and Architecture of Ireland, a five volume work to be published by Yale University Press in 2014. His central research interests can be classified as the relationship of consciousness and space; Photography, of built space and landscape; the conception, experience and representation of space in post-war Europe and the culture of architecture in Ireland.
Professor Bill Marshall is Director of the Institute of Modern Languages Research and Chair of Comparative and Literary Cultural Studies at the University of Stirling. Professor Marshall’s research interests lie on the interface of culture and politics in the French-speaking world since 1900, using theory to explore that relationship. His current work develops the theme of mobile, diasporic ‘Frenchness’ with particular relation to the Atlantic: he edited an Encyclopedia, France and the Americas, which appeared in 2005, and his The French Atlantic: Travels in Culture and History was published by Liverpool University Press in 2009.
